Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). When she was just five when she left for Oxfordshire and attended an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Since the age of 6 Emma knew she would like to become an actress and for a number of years she attended the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theater school, where she learned dance and acting. At the age of 10, she had performed and taken the role of lead in a number of Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Casting began in 1999 in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Casting agents found Emma through her Oxford theater teacher. After a string of auditions for eight consecutive times, director David Heyman told Emma and other applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint they were cast for the role of three of the leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's debut film on the screen was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone that was released in the year 2001. It was also the biggest and most profitable film in the year 2001. The opening weekday and weekend the sales were unbeatable. Many critics have praised the film and the performances given by three of the main young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a frequently read British newspaper, was awed by her for her exceptional performance. Emma was awarded the Young Artist Award as the Most Outstanding Young Actress in an Feature Film. Emma was nominated for five awards for her work in the film.
